Beware of cyber fraudsters during Chardham Yatra
Char Dham Yatra Cyber Fraud: Many devotees going on Chardham Yatra are becoming victims of cyber fraud these days, due to which they are facing financial loss. Rudraprayag SP Niharika Tomar said that a large number of devotees use helicopter service to reach Chardham. Taking advantage of this, cyber thugs are targeting people. In the last few years, many such cases have come to light in which devotees have been cheated online. The police have issued necessary advisories to the people and appealed to be cautious.
How do cyber thugs trap you?
- According to the police, cyber thugs trap people through fake advertisements and fake websites.
- First they lure people with cheap tickets, early booking or VIP darshan, then make people make online payments and make the money disappear from their bank accounts.
- To stop such cases, the police has formed a special team, which is keeping an eye on cyber frauds related to helicopter booking.
- Till now this team has taken action against about 55 online platforms.
- Many fake Facebook and Instagram pages, fake websites, WhatsApp numbers and bank accounts have been found involved in these cases.
- The police have registered an FIR against many accused and the investigation into the case is continuing.
What advice did the police give?
Police have advised that helicopter tickets or hotel booking should always be done through government or official websites only. Do not make payment by trusting any unknown link, social media post or WhatsApp message.

Apart from this, there is a need to be careful about advertisements in the name of attractive offers and cheap packages. Cyber thugs create such fake websites, which look exactly like real websites. Many times their URL is also similar to the real website, due to which people easily get confused.
