Hanta virus: Know the ways of its spread and experts’ opinion

Hanta virus concern in New Delhi

New Delhi: After Corona virus, now a new claim on social media about Hanta virus is worrying people. It is discussed that this virus can also spread through mother’s milk and sperm. This news has raised concerns among pregnant women and families with small children. However, experts say there is no need to panic as such cases are extremely rare.

scientific approach

According to Dr. Rajiv Jayadevan of the Indian Medical Association, finding RNA of the virus in sperm after recovery from the disease is not a new thing. It has been seen in 27 different viruses. Viruses can remain hidden in our testicles for a long time. It is a matter of relief that only the RNA of the virus has been found in the research, not the live virus. This means that there is no concrete evidence of spreading the infection to others through it.

It started with a study in 2023 in which RNA of the Andes strain spreading from rats was found in human sperm. Scientists say that there may be a possibility of it spreading through sexual contact, but no such confirmed case has come to light yet.

Can the virus spread through mother’s milk?

According to a medical journal report, traces of Andes virus were found in the milk of an infected mother in Chile, raising the risk of mother-to-child transmission of the virus. But Pune epidemiologist Dr. Amitav Banerjee says that this case is very rare and common people do not need to panic about it.

Recent case of Hanta virus
