Saudi Athletics GP: Odisha’s Animesh Kujur Sprints To 200m Gold, Finishes 2nd In 100m

Bhubaneswar: India’s top sprinter Animesh Kujur won the Men’s 200m and finished second in 100m at the Saudi Athletics Grand Prix 2026 in Riyadh.

Kujur, who represents Odisha, clocked 20.77 seconds to leave Britain’s David Harrison (20.87s) and Toby Harries (21.01s) in his wake.

In the 100m sprint, however, Harrison (10.42s) pipped Kujur (10.44s) in a close finish at the Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University Stadium.

India had more to cheer about as another national record-holder Mohammed Afsal Pulikkalakath won the Men’s 800m in 1 minute, 48.24 seconds, holding off spirited challenge from South Africa’s Christopher Swart (1:48.50) and Werner Gouws (1:48.75).

The Bronze level meet is Saudi Arabia’s first World Athletics-sanctioned meet.
