Consignment of 132.65 kg ganja being brought from Nepal recovered, smuggler absconding
Daughter. West Champaran Police took a major action on May 16 as part of the campaign against illegal drugs and recovered 132.65 kg of ganja. During this time, the police also seized a Mahindra Bolero vehicle, while two smugglers traveling on the vehicle fled from the spot taking advantage of the darkness.
During the special operation being run on the instructions of Superintendent of Police West Champaran, DIU prohibition team and Gopalpur police station had received secret information that a large consignment of illegal drugs from Nepal was being brought to Bettiah in a Bolero vehicle. Based on the information, a joint raid team was formed under the leadership of DIU in-charge and Gopalpur police station in-charge and a vehicle checking campaign was conducted. During investigation, an attempt was made to stop a silver colored Mahindra Bolero (registration number BR 22P 1657) coming at a high speed on the Bettiah-Manatand main road. On seeing the police, two persons traveling in the vehicle took advantage of the darkness and ran away. After this, when the vehicle was searched, a total of 132.65 kg of ganja was recovered from 17 packets kept in it.
The police have registered an FIR in this matter at Gopalpur police station on May 17 and have started further legal action. Raids are going on to identify and arrest the absconding smugglers. The same officer involved in the raiding team, P.N. Rajesh Kumar, DIU in-charge Prohibition, P.U.N. Ankit Kumar, Police Station Head, Gopalpur Police Station, P.A.N. Suresh Yadav, Gopalpur police station reserve guard and DIU prohibition team were included.
