After PM’s appeal, first ‘Metro Monday’ in Delhi today, DMRC made special preparations

New Delhi: Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to save fuel and promote public transport, the Delhi government has started the “Metro Monday” campaign. The first day of this initiative is being celebrated on Monday. The government has appealed to people to use public transport services like metro and bus more instead of private vehicles.

What special preparations did DMRC make?

Wide publicity was given in the capital regarding this campaign, due to which the number of passengers in metro and buses is expected to increase on Monday. In view of the possible crowd, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has made special preparations. Six additional metro trains will be run on Monday, which will provide relief to the passengers by making a total of 24 additional trips. Apart from this, if needed, a plan has been made to increase additional trips on other days also. DMRC has also decided to strengthen the security and ticketing system so that passengers do not face any kind of trouble.

Delhi government has also made preparations to put bus services on the roads at full capacity. All 6,300 DTC buses will operate in the capital on Monday. A large number of these are electric buses, which are being seen as environmentally friendly transportation. Along with this, 58 special buses have been arranged to take employees from 29 government colonies to the nearest metro station. The aim of the government is that employees should easily reach the metro and avoid using private vehicles.

How long is the Delhi Metro network?

The Delhi Metro network is currently about 416 kilometers long and includes 303 stations. More than 4,500 trips are made daily through 343 trains. Lakhs of people from NCR including Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Bahadurgarh use the metro service every day. Metro is playing an important role in connecting the commercial, educational and residential areas of the capital.

DMRC will deploy additional security personnel to control the crowd. Many additional ticket counters will be opened and door frame metal detectors and baggage scanners will also be increased. Besides, emphasis will also be laid on improving last-mile connectivity. The government believes that initiatives like “Metro Monday” will strengthen the habit of adopting public transport among the people and will also help in saving fuel and reducing pollution.
