DA increase announced in many states, eyes fixed on Bengal government’s decision

Knews Desk– In many states of the country, government employees and pensioners have been given major relief in the form of increase in Dearness Allowance (DA). Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Bihar governments have recently taken an official decision to increase DA, which will directly benefit lakhs of employees. Now all eyes are on the decision of the West Bengal government, where a big announcement is likely to be made soon.

Tamil Nadu, Bihar and Odisha government of 2 percent increase in DA

Odisha government has announced a 2 percent increase in DA for employees and pensioners. After this, DA in the state has increased from 58 percent to 60 percent. This increase will be effective from January 1, 2026 and will be paid along with the May salary. This decision will benefit about 8.5 lakh employees and pensioners of the state.

Tamil Nadu government has also decided to increase DA for its employees and teachers. Here DA has been increased from 58 percent to 60 percent, which will be applicable from January 1, 2026. About 16 lakh government employees, teachers and pensioners will benefit from this decision. However, this increase will also put additional financial burden on the state every year. Bihar government has also approved amendment in DA of employees. Under the Sixth Pay Commission, DA has been increased from 257 percent to 262 percent, while under the Seventh Pay Commission, it has been increased from 58 percent to 60 percent. A separate increase has also been made for the Fifth Pay Commission employees.

Employees have high hopes in West Bengal too

Amidst the decisions of these states, now employees in West Bengal also have great expectations. It is expected that important decisions regarding DA increase and Seventh Pay Commission will be taken in the upcoming cabinet meeting of the state government. It is believed that the government may consider increasing DA in line with the central rates, which will provide relief to lakhs of employees and pensioners.

If the West Bengal government takes this decision, it can prove to be a big economic benefit for the government employees of the state.
