Delhi will soon get its first automated testing center, fitness of commercial vehicles will be easy

Commercial vehicle drivers of Delhi are going to get big relief soon. Delhi’s first fully automated testing center (ATS) is now ready. After its launch, commercial vehicle owners and drivers will not have to go out of Delhi to undergo fitness test. This state-of-the-art Automated Testing Center has been built in the Nandnagari Depot premises. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta can inaugurate it this month. DTC has also started preparations regarding this. In this centre, fitness testing of commercial vehicles will be done with fully automated technology. The braking system, pollution level, headlights, suspension, steering and other technical parameters of the vehicle will be checked through machines.

72 thousand vehicles can be examined

According to a senior official, in this state-of-the-art ATS built at a cost of about Rs 10 crore, fitness and pollution checks of about 72 thousand vehicles can be done every year. With the opening of this centre, commercial vehicle drivers will not have to go out of Delhi for fitness test. In this station developed by DTC, 4 automatic lanes have been made for checking vehicles. Of these, 2 lanes have been earmarked for heavy vehicles, while one lane each will be for light vehicles and two-wheelers.

Although at present there is no provision for fitness testing of two-wheelers in Delhi, but keeping in mind the future needs, a separate lane has been prepared in this center for testing two-wheelers. Currently this lane will be used for checking light vehicles. At present, a testing center located in Jhuljhuli is operating in Delhi for fitness testing of commercial vehicles, but it is not completely automated.

Investigation will be done in a few minutes

In Delhi’s first fully automated testing center (ATS) prepared in the Nandnagari depot complex, testing of vehicles can be completed in a few minutes with the help of machines and computer-based technology. Here, with the help of computers and modern machines, precise checks of brakes, suspension, underbody inspection, headlight alignment and pollution levels (emission check) will be done. According to DTC officials, if the vehicle meets all the prescribed standards then the fitness test certificate will be issued within about 10 to 12 minutes. At the same time, vehicles that do not meet the prescribed standards will be declared failed in the test and will not get a fitness certificate.

Major advantages of Automated Testing Center

Faster Verification Process: While manual testing takes hours, the automated center will be able to test multiple parts of the vehicle like brakes, lights, wheel alignment and suspension simultaneously in just a few minutes.

Will take less time: By speeding up the process, the problem of long queues at testing centers will be reduced. This will save a lot of time for drivers and operators.

Eliminates the possibility of human error: Due to the computer and sensor based testing system, there will be almost no scope for human error or bias in testing. This will make the fitness process more transparent.

Deep Technical Investigation: This modern system will also be able to detect those subtle technical defects of the vehicle, which are missed by the human eye during normal inspection.

Improving road safety: After accurate and scientific testing, only safe vehicles will be able to ply on the road. This is expected to reduce road accidents caused by technical faults.
