Good news for government employees, cabinet approves pay commission
New Delhi. Big relief and good news has come for the government employees of West Bengal. The new government of the state has approved the formation of the 7th Finance Commission in its second cabinet meeting. After this meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shuvendu Adhikari, it is now expected that there may be a big increase in the salaries of lakhs of government employees and pensioners in the coming time.
For a long time, employees in the state were demanding the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission. It was also included in the major issues during the assembly elections. Now after the approval of the cabinet, the hope of getting relief to the employees soon has increased.
Employees’ salaries may increase
According to reports, after the implementation of the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission, the monthly salary of the employees may increase by about 10 thousand to 12 thousand rupees. However the actual increase will depend on the fitment factor and final recommendations. Apart from this, employees are also expected to get benefits in House Rent Allowance (HRA), traveling allowance and other facilities.
At present, government employees in West Bengal are being paid salaries on the basis of the 6th Finance Commission. For this reason, the salaries of the state employees are considered less as compared to many other states. The 7th Pay Commission is already implemented in many states of the country including Uttar Pradesh, due to which the employees there are getting the benefit of higher salary and better allowances.
Preparation to fulfill election promise
During the assembly elections, BJP had promised government employees and pensioners to implement the 7th Pay Commission. After the formation of the new government, steps have been taken in that direction. The Chief Minister had already indicated that a decision on this issue would be taken in the cabinet meeting. Now after the approval for the formation of the commission, there is an atmosphere of enthusiasm among the employees.
No decision yet regarding DA
Although some new announcement regarding Dearness Allowance (DA) was expected in the cabinet meeting, but no decision was taken on it. It is believed that the government may take a separate decision on this subject in the coming time.
