In the third phase of SIR, a big campaign of voter list revision started in 16 states and 3 union territories.
New Delhi, 21 May. The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday started the third phase of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign to make the voter list more pure, accurate and updated. This campaign will be run in 16 states and three union territories in a phased manner. The main objective of this campaign is to remove fake names, add new eligible voters, remove errors present in the voter list and prepare a completely ready list for the upcoming elections.
The campaign includes door-to-door verification by Block Level Officers (BLOs), rationalization of polling stations, publication of draft voter list, hearing of claims-objections and publication of final voter list. The qualification date for SIR in Nagaland and Tripura has been kept as October 1, 2026.
The preparation, training and printing work of SIR program in Nagaland will run from August 05 to August 14, 2026. The door-to-door survey will be conducted by Block Level Officers (BLOs) from August 16 to September 14, 2026. Rationalization of polling stations will be completed by September 14, 2026. The draft voter list will be published on September 20, 2026. Claims and objections can be filed from September 20 to October 20, 2026. The final voter list will be released on 22 November 2026.
This program will start a little later in Tripura. Here the preparation, training and printing work will continue from 05 September to 14 September 2026. The door-to-door survey by BLO will be conducted from September 15 to October 14, 2026. Rationalization of polling stations will be completed by October 14, 2026. The draft voter list will be published on October 21, 2026 and the final voter list will be released on December 23, 2026.
If we look at other states, the qualifying date has been kept as July 01, 2026 in Odisha, Mizoram, Sikkim, Manipur. The process will also start in Dadra and Nagar Haveli-Daman and Diu, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh from July, 2026. Whereas in Telangana, Punjab, Karnataka, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Delhi the qualifying date is October 1, 2026.
The Election Commission has instructed the Chief Electoral Officers of all the states to complete this campaign with complete transparency and timeliness. The Commission believes that this special campaign will significantly improve the quality of the voter list and further strengthen the foundation of democracy.
