When blood sugar reached 550, breathing stopped, ‘Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana’ saved the life of 62 year old woman
62-year-old Bhoor Kaur from Sangrur district of Punjab was a patient of diabetes and high blood pressure for the last several years. His life was going on normally with daily medicines and precautions. But one day suddenly his condition deteriorated so much that the family was shocked. Her blood sugar level reached 550 mg/dL and within no time she fell unconscious.
The family had no time to think. Son Harpal and daughter-in-law Paramjeet immediately took him to the hospital. The atmosphere of the house was filled with fear and restlessness. The family was continuously praying that somehow his life would be saved.
The fight for life started in ICU
On reaching Kashmiri Heart Care Center in Sunam, doctors found that Bhoor Kaur’s condition was very serious. He had life-threatening problems like diabetic ketoacidosis, severe infection and difficulty in breathing. Due to severe lack of water and electrolyte imbalance in the body, many organs started getting affected.
Doctors immediately admitted him to the ICU and started treatment. Doctors were keeping an eye on his condition every moment through oxygen support, insulin, antibiotics and constant monitoring. The initial hours were extremely challenging, because every minute was important for his life.
Ray of hope visible on third day
After continuous treatment, Bhoor Kaur’s condition started improving on the third day. The oxygen level improved and the infection started being controlled. The biggest relief came when he regained consciousness. This was no less than a miracle for the family.
According to doctors, getting timely treatment was the biggest reason for saving his life. If there was even a slight delay, the situation could have become more serious.
‘Chief Minister Health Scheme’ became support
During this entire treatment, Punjab Government’s ‘Chief Minister Health Scheme’ proved to be a great relief for the family. Under the scheme, treatment started immediately and financial concerns did not become a hindrance in treatment.
The family says that if this facility was not available then it would have been difficult to bear the expense of such a huge treatment. Today Bhoor Kaur is slowly recovering and considers this as her second life.
A story that became an example of hope and trust
Bhoor Kaur’s story is not just a patient’s recovery, but an example of timely treatment, government support and the faith of the family. This incident shows that in a medical emergency, quick decisions and proper health facilities can save someone’s life.
