FIR against Delhi Police Inspector and Head Constable, major action by Vigilance Unit on charges of bribery

A case has been registered against two Delhi Police officers after serious allegations were made against them. According to the information, an FIR has been registered against an Inspector and a Head Constable on charges of bribery, extortion, assault and misuse of position. This action was taken by the Vigilance Unit on May 15. Inspector Uday Singh and Head Constable Robin have been named accused in the case. Both the officers are said to be posted in the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of the Special Cell.

According to police officials, complainant Dinesh Kumar has alleged that on July 15, 2024, he was stopped outside a society located in Rohini. The policemen handcuffed him publicly and took him to his home in front of people. It is alleged that during this period he was beaten up, his wife was misbehaved and threats were also made. In the name of search, about Rs 20 lakh in cash, mangalsutra and other personal items were seized. No notice was given to him before his arrest nor were the guidelines set by the Supreme Court of India followed.

Complainant Dinesh Kumar has made many more serious allegations against the policemen. He claims that his Axis Bank credit card was used for personal purposes while he was in jail. Many transactions took place while he was in jail. Citing bank statements and CCTV footage, he alleged that his card was in the possession of policemen and its PIN was taken by head constable Robin.

The complaint also states that during his stay in jail, constant pressure was put on his wife and a demand of Rs 15 lakh was made. If the amount was not paid, he was threatened to be kept in jail for a long time. Furthermore, Head Constable Robin demanded a Tata Nexon car from his wife, which was allegedly done at the behest of Inspector Uday Singh. He has also claimed to have an audio recording of this conversation, which has been said to be handed over to the Vigilance Unit in Pan Drive.

The Vigilance Unit of Delhi Police has registered a case on the basis of the complaint received on 27 February 2026. Charges have been leveled in the FIR under Section 7 and Section 13(1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. These sections relate to taking bribe and criminal misconduct by a public servant in matters connected with government work.

Apart from this, a case has also been registered under Section 316 of BNS, which is related to criminal breach of trust. If convicted under these sections, there is a provision of punishment ranging from one year to 10 years, fine or both. The Vigilance Unit is currently examining documents, bank records, alleged audio recordings and other evidence related to the case to verify the allegations.
