Mumbai, 21 May. Mumbai Cyber Police has achieved another major success in its campaign against digital fraud. Citizens have been saved by freezing an amount of more than Rs 101.39 crore due to the prompt action of 1930 Cyber Helpline and Crime Branch in the first 19 days from January 2026 to May 2026. According to Mumbai Police, a total of 2,55,092 calls were recorded on the helpline during this period. Of these, the defrauded amount was successfully held in 30,302 cases.
That means in one out of every four cases the police managed to save money in time. The success rate was around 25.68 percent. A senior Mumbai Cyber Police official said, “The 1930 helpline has now become a strong shield of digital security for Mumbaikars. As soon as we receive a complaint, we immediately coordinate with banks, payment gateways and related agencies. At the national level, nodal officers are contacted and suspicious accounts are frozen, so that criminals cannot transfer money. This quick response is our biggest strength.”
Complaints are mainly coming in cases like share trading and investment fraud, digital arrest, online task fraud, fake job offers, debit-credit card fraud, phishing and OTP-based fraud. The officials are immediately contacting the concerned bank or wallet and stopping the amount. The four-year figure is even more impressive. The 1930 helpline, which was started in May 2022, has so far saved a total amount of Rs 491.57 crore from cyber fraud.
This figure proves that Mumbai Police is succeeding in creating a strong security system amidst the increasing threat of cyber crime. Police have appealed to the citizens to immediately call 1930 if they notice any fake call, suspicious link, investment greed or financial fraud. Officials believe that time is the most important factor in cyber fraud. The sooner the complaint is made, the greater are the chances that the defrauded amount can be recovered or frozen.
