Tamil Nadu Cabinet Expansion: Entry of 23 new ministers in CM Joseph Vijay cabinet, know who got which department?
Chennai : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has included 23 newly elected MLAs in the state cabinet. The swearing-in ceremony of the new ministers took place at the Governor’s residence in Guindy at 10 am. In this ceremony, the ministers were administered the oath of office and secrecy in the presence of Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Chief Minister Vijay and other senior leaders. Two Congress MLAs were included in the cabinet. Earlier, Vijay had recommended inclusion of 23 MLAs in the cabinet.

The Governor had approved these appointments ahead of the swearing-in ceremony to be held at Lok Bhavan in Chennai on Thursday morning. This expansion is the second major expansion under the newly formed TVK government led by Vijay after the recent assembly elections. National General Secretary of Congress Party K.C. As per Venugopal’s announcement, Congress Legislature Party leader and MLA from Kiliyur Assembly constituency Rajesh Kumar and MLA from Melur Assembly constituency P. Vishwanathan were inducted into the cabinet.
Earlier, there were a total of 10 ministers in the cabinet including Chief Minister Vijay. But now after taking oath of 21 MLAs of TVK and 2 MLAs of Congress, the total number of ministers has increased to 33.
Now total 4 women ministers in Vijay cabinet
Keerthana is already present in the Tamil Nadu cabinet. Now three more women have been given a chance. Avinashi MLA Kamali, Kumarapalayam MLA Vijayalakshmi and Rajapalayam MLA Jegadeshwari. K has been included in the cabinet.

According to Article 164 (1A) of the Indian Constitution, only a maximum of 15 percent of the total members of the Legislative Assembly of a state can be made ministers. Under this provision, the maximum number of ministers in the Tamil Nadu Assembly of 234 members has been fixed at 35.

AICC general secretary KC Venugopal said in a post on Wednesday evening that Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the inclusion of Rajesh Kumar and P Vishwanathan in the Tamil Nadu cabinet. It is a historic occasion as the Congress is joining the state cabinet after a gap of 59 years.
