Electricity theft busted in Masaudhi

The electricity department has raided Lakhibaug locality of Masaurhi Nagar area and detected a major case of electricity theft. During investigation, it was revealed that the consumer was using electrical energy illegally by bypassing the meter. In this matter, the Electricity Department has applied to register an FIR in Masaurhi police station. According to the information received, a special raid campaign against electricity theft was conducted on May 20 under the leadership of Ranjit Prasad, Junior Electrical Engineer of Electricity Supply Branch, Masodhi-1. The raiding team included Ashok Sao, Vinod Kumar and other departmental personnel.
At around 1:20 pm, the team investigated the residential premises of Sunil Kumar, father Suresh Chaudhary near Vishwanath Temple in Lakhibaug Mohalla. During the investigation, it was found that the service wire going from the main LT line to the meter was cut by the consumer before the meter and an additional wire was added to it, due to which the correct consumption of electricity being used in the premises was not being recorded in the meter. According to the investigation team, electricity was being stolen illegally by bypassing the meter in this manner. The total load of electrical equipment installed on the spot was found to be 438 watts. During the raid, part of the PVC wire used in the theft was cut and seized and the electricity meter installed in the premises was uprooted and kept safe as evidence in the departmental office.
According to departmental assessment, South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited has suffered a loss of about Rs 9,535 due to this electricity theft, while Rs 8,772 is already outstanding from the consumer. Thus, a total amount of Rs 18,307 has been declared payable. Junior Electrical Engineer Ranjit Prasad has filed an application at Masaurhi police station demanding legal action by registering an FIR against the accused consumer under Section 135 of the Indian Electricity Act 2003 and other relevant sections. The department says that the campaign against electricity theft will continue in future also.
