AI will not be able to take the jobs of humans, smart system failed to identify milk in Starbucks, company fired

Starbucks AI Vs Humans: Once again the discussion about AI has started across the world. Earlier it was being said that AI will eliminate millions of jobs and someone was saying that this technology is becoming the biggest threat to humans. But now a case has come to light which has revealed the real weakness of AI to the world. Let us tell you that in an AI trial of Starbucks, the robot and smart system got confused in identifying different cartons of milk. Due to which the company ultimately had to shut down its AI inventory system.

AI program had to be closed in 9 months

A report released by Reuters said that Starbucks had started AI Powered Inventory Program in its North American stores. With the help of which the aim was made to eliminate the problem of product shortage in the store. Regarding which the company’s CEO Brian Niccol said that he hoped that the AI system could make stock management faster and more accurate and for this reason cameras and LIDAR technology were used so that the system could automatically scan the shelves and complete the counting of goods. But things did not turn out the way we had planned.

AI made such a mistake

It was reported in the report that the AI app had started counting the goods incorrectly many times. Besides this, the system was not able to differentiate between similar looking milk packets. It was also observed that in many cases the AI had misidentified even oat milk and almond milk and some products were not counted at all. Due to which the store operations were also greatly affected due to which the employees had to do manual checking again. Which simply means that the AI which was being said to be a threat to the jobs of humans is still not completely capable of identifying milk packets.

Why does AI get stuck in the real world?

After looking into this matter, experts are saying that AI systems can perform well in lab or controlled environment but small nuances of the real world confuse them. In which things like slight changes in packaging design, different labels or changing the position of the goods can confuse the automated system. Because of which human monitoring is still absolutely necessary in many sectors.
