Central Government Holiday Update: Central Government changed the day of Bakrid holiday, now the holiday will be on this date instead of 27th.

At this time, a very big and harsh news is coming out from lakhs of employees working under the Central Government and administrative circles of the country. The Government of India has made an important and major amendment regarding the Official Gazetted Holiday on the holy occasion of Eid-ul-Azha (Bakrid), one of the most sacred and big festivals of Islam. If you are also working in any ministry, department or office of the Central Government, then please note this administrative reshuffle and this new change in the calendar very carefully. The government has now announced a new date for the Bakrid holiday by amending its old list. Now all central offices will remain closed on May 28 instead of May 27. According to the latest report of the famous news agency PTI, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions of the Government of India has issued an official notification and gazette in this regard. According to this new administrative order, the previously scheduled Eid-ul-Azha (Bakrid) holiday for all central government offices and administrative establishments across the country has now been extended. In the earlier government calendar, this holiday was scheduled for 27 May 2026, but now under the changed rules, it has been revised to 28 May 2026 (Thursday). Why was the date of the official holiday changed? Know the main reason. This major change made in the date of gazetted holiday of Bakrid has been decided completely on the basis of scientific and religious rules of Moon Sighting done at traditional and local level. Since the entire Islamic calendar and its festivals are based entirely on lunar calendar calculations, the exact and ground date of any festival depends entirely on what day the new moon appears in the sky. The Shahi Imam of the historic Jama Masjid of the capital Delhi has also issued a nationwide official announcement on this subject. According to the religious confirmation of Shahi Imam, the holy festival of Bakrid will be celebrated with full enthusiasm in the national capital Delhi and main parts of the country on May 28. In view of this religious decision and the convenience of the Muslim community of the country, the Personnel Ministry of the Central Government also took the appropriate decision to postpone the date of the holiday by one day. The moon of ‘Dhul Hijjah’ was not visible on May 17. Prominent Muslim religious leaders, Qazis and Hilal committees of the country, while sharing technical information, had said that the crescent moon, which is considered to be the symbol of the beginning of the upcoming holy Islamic month of ‘Dhul Hijjah’, was not visible anywhere in most and main geographical parts of the country on the evening of May 17. According to the strict rules of the Islamic calendar, the beginning of this new month was delayed by one day due to the absence of the moon. As a result of this, the calculations for Bakrid festival also had to be postponed further. Keeping this ground and religious reality in mind, the Central Government immediately changed its administrative stand, so that government employees do not have to face any inconvenience in celebrating the festival and fulfilling religious obligations.
