Punjab government is strict on stray dogs, Supreme Court orders will be implemented in the entire state
Now the state government has decided to take a big step regarding the continuously increasing attacks by stray dogs in Punjab. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has clearly said that the orders of the Supreme Court will be fully implemented in the entire state, so that the safety of the people can be ensured and the animals are also taken care of in a humane manner.
Stray dogs will be removed from crowded areas
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that stray dogs will be removed from all the crowded public places in the state. He says that this step has become necessary so that children, elderly and families can roam in parks, markets and public places without fear.
In recent months, incidents of stray dog attacks were reported from many cities and villages of Punjab, after which fear and resentment was increasing among the people. The government believes that now the time has come to take decisive action on this problem.
Dog shelters will be built
The Chief Minister announced that the government will build dog shelters as per the need across the state. Stray dogs will be properly taken care of in these shelter homes, so that they can get a safe environment.
The government says that this campaign will not be limited only to the removal of dogs, but arrangements for their food, treatment and care will also be ensured. Necessary instructions have been issued to the administration in this regard.
Supreme Court orders will be followed
The Chief Minister said that following the instructions issued by the Supreme Court on May 19, 2026, the government has started taking immediate action. He said that all departments have been asked to work following the legal process.
The government also clarified that in cases of dogs suffering from rabies or serious disease and proving to be dangerous to human life, legal action will be taken under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and ABC rules. If necessary, measures like painless death can also be adopted.
People’s safety is government’s priority
Bhagwant Mann said that every decision of the Punjab government is taken keeping in mind the safety and well-being of the common people. He said that the government always gives top priority to matters related to public safety.
