‘3D player’ Vijay Shankar said goodbye to IPL and domestic cricket, himself told about future planning
Vijay Shankar Announces Retirement: Former Indian team player Vijay Shankar has announced his retirement from Indian Premier League and domestic cricket on Friday. While sharing a post on social media, he said that this decision has been taken with the aim of exploring new opportunities and playing more cricket. Let us tell you that with his retirement from domestic cricket, the way has also opened for Vijay Shankar to play in foreign T20 leagues. Former all-rounder and ‘3D player’ Famous by the name of Vijay Shankar, he debuted for the Indian team in 2018.

Vijay Shankar has played 12 ODI and 9 T20 international matches for India. While sharing the post, Vijay Shankar wrote, ‘Cricket is my life. I started playing at the age of 10 and 25 years later, I consider myself extremely lucky and blessed to have had the opportunity to play at every level and at the highest level. Representing the country will always be one of my proudest and happiest moments. I have decided to retire from domestic cricket and IPL to explore new opportunities and play more cricket. ‘Thank you’ for allowing me to do what I love. Words are not enough. I will be forever grateful to you all.’
Why called 3D player?
Let us tell you that Vijay Shankar is also known as 3D player. In fact, in the 2019 World Cup, Vijay Shankar was included in Team India in place of Ambati Rayudu, while the selection of experienced batsman Ambati Rayudu was considered almost certain. At the last moment, the selectors surprised everyone and gave a chance to Vijay. The selector had included him in the team calling him a three-dimensional player.
Vijay Shankar was also a part of the ODI World Cup squad in 2019. He played his last match for Team India against West Indies in Manchester. He had to be out of the tournament due to a toe injury and then he could not return to the team.
Played for four teams in IPL
Vijay Shankar has represented four teams in IPL. This includes Chennai Super Kings (2014 and 2025), Sunrisers Hyderabad (2017, 2019-2021), Delhi Capitals (2018) and Gujarat Titans (2022-2024). At present, he was not a part of any team. Vijay Shankar has taken 1233 runs and nine wickets in 78 matches in IPL.
Vijay played the most matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He was last seen in the jersey of Chennai Super Kings.

Vijay Shankar’s career
Vijay Shankar played a total of 77 first-class, 112 List A and 159 T20 matches after his debut in 2012. Vijay scored 4,253 first-class runs at an average of 46.73, including 13 centuries and 23 half-centuries, and also took 43 wickets. He scored 2,790 runs in List A at an average of 34.87. In this, he has two centuries, 15 half-centuries and 73 wickets to his name. Vijay Shankar has scored 2,583 runs and taken 38 wickets in T20.
