Rajasthan Royals’ playoff at stake, Chahal included in the team before the last match

3 teams have made it to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 playoffs. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have confirmed their places in the top-4. Now there is a direct competition between Rajasthan Royals (RR), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Capitals (DC) for a spot in the playoffs. Among these, RR is the strongest contender. He has 14 points in 13 matches.

RR is currently at fourth position. He has to face Mumbai Indians (RR) in his last match on Sunday (24 May). If RR wins this match, then it will enter the playoffs, because PBKS, KKR and DC have no chance of reaching 16 points. There will be a match between RR and MI in the afternoon, on which the eyes of all the teams involved in the race for the playoffs are going to be. Before this important match, RR has made a big change in its squad.

Chahal’s entry in RR team

RR team captained by Riyan Parag has signed Imanjot Chahal in place of injured Ravi Singh. Ravi is out of IPL 2026 due to hamstring injury. He was bought by RR for Rs 95 lakh in the last auction. Wicketkeeper batsman Ravi got a chance to play only one match, in which he scored 4 runs in 2 balls against Delhi Capitals while batting at number 6. However, after this his season ended due to injury, due to which Chahal got a chance.

Who is Imanjot Chahal?

21 year old Chahal is a right handed batsman. He also bowls left arm spin. Chahal plays for Punjab in domestic cricket. This all-rounder from Patiala has not played any T20 or ODI match at the senior level till now. He has the experience of 3 first class matches, in which he has taken 11 wickets apart from scoring 105 runs. His best score in first class cricket is 83. He made his first class debut in October 2024. In the last Ranji season, he got a chance to play only one match. RR has added Chahal to its team for Rs 30 lakh.
