Shreyas Iyer kept PBKS’s playoff hopes alive by scoring a century, LSG lost the last match
The 68th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 was played between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). In the match played at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Saturday (23 May), PBKS kept their playoff hopes alive by winning by 7 wickets. When invited to bat first, LSG scored 196 runs for the loss of 6 wickets, which PBKS achieved by losing 3 wickets in 18 overs on the basis of captain Shreyas Iyer’s first IPL century.
With this victory, PBKS broke the streak of consecutive defeats and is closer to entering the playoffs. Now he has to pray that Rajasthan Royals lose to Mumbai Indians in the afternoon match tomorrow (Sunday) and then Kolkata Knight Riders do not get a huge win against Delhi Capitals. On the other hand, LSG also lost its last match of this season. Now it is almost certain that he will remain at the last position.

Shreyas Iyer showed his class
While chasing the target, PBKS lost the wicket of Priyansh Arya on the very first ball. Mohammed Shami got him caught by Arjun Tendulkar. After this, in the next over, Shami gave another blow to PBKS by clean bowling Cooper Connolly. After 2 wickets fell for 22 runs, Shreyas took up the responsibility of scoring runs and along with Prabhsimran Singh made a partnership of 140 runs for the third wicket. Taking advantage of his life, Prabhasimran scored 69 runs in 39 balls with the help of 7 fours and 2 sixes.
After Prabhasimran’s dismissal, Shreyas and Suryansh Shedge took PBKS to the target without any trouble. Shreyas finished the match with a six and also completed his century. He remained unbeaten after scoring 101 runs in 51 balls with the help of 11 fours and 5 sixes. Shedge scored 9 unbeaten runs in 7 balls.

LSG’s innings was like this
LSG also did not have a good start in the match. He lost the wickets of Arshin Kulkarni (0) and Nicholas Pooran (2) for 20 runs. From here, Ayush Badoni brought his innings back on track by scoring 43 runs in 18 balls with the help of 5 fours and 3 sixes. Badoni was stumped in the seventh over. After his departure, Josh Inglis and captain Rishabh Pant made a partnership of 65 runs. However, Pant’s contribution in this was only 26 runs. For this he played 22 balls and hit 3 fours.
Inglis scored 72 runs in 44 balls, which included 9 fours and 2 sixes, before getting out in the 17th over. Abdul Samad scored unbeaten 37 runs in 20 balls to take LSG to a challenging score but it proved to be insufficient. For PBKS, Marco Janson and Yuzvendra Chahal bowled brilliantly and took 2 wickets each.
