Is staying in the office really hard work? Know the smart way to finish work in 8 hours

In today’s corporate era, many people consider staying in the office till late night to work as a sign of their hard work and dedication. But according to famous author and computer scientist Kelvin C. Newport, working late hours may not always be a sign of hard work but of poor time management. If you want to go home on time and be more productive in less time, then it is important to first understand your working style.

shallow work

Shallow work is work that does not require much thinking or focus. Like checking emails frequently, continuously replying on WhatsApp or spending time in unnecessary meetings. Often people spend a large part of their day in such work.

deep work

Deep work is something that involves your complete focus and deep thinking. Real productivity is giving uninterrupted attention to an important project, report or creative work. This work increases your professional value.

adopt time blocking

Divide your day into different time segments. For example, decide that from 10 to 11:30 in the morning you will work only on the most important projects and will not take any kind of distraction during this time.

Have a set time to check email

Give up the habit of checking mail every few minutes. Open your inbox only 2-3 times a day at fixed times.

Learn to say ‘no’

Not every meeting or extra work is necessary. Learn to politely refuse where you are not needed.

After finishing work, close the laptop and mentally separate yourself from the office. This improves work-life balance.
