An Indian family, which reached Britain from Rohtak in Haryana, has created such history in foreign politics, which is now being discussed in both the countries. 23-year-old Tushar Kumar and his mother Parveen Rani have been elected mayor in Britain at the same time. This achievement is also considered special because Tushar has become the youngest mayor of Indian origin in Britain.
Tushar was elected mayor of Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council, while his mother Parveen Rani became the first Indian-origin mayor of Hertsmere Borough Council. It has become a matter of pride for the Indian community for a mother and son from the same family to become mayors together.
When did the family go to Britain?
Tushar’s father and businessman Sunil Dahiya told that his family had settled in Britain in the year 2013. The family is originally from Rohna village in Kharkhoda area of Sonipat district of Haryana, although they were living in Rohtak for a long time before moving to Britain. Sunil Dahiya said, “When we came to UK in 2013, we had nothing special in mind. Tushar was only 10 years old then.”
On which day mother-son became mayor?
Tushar Kumar has made his own mark in the political history of Britain at the age of just 23. He has become the youngest ever Mayor of Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council. Tushar was elected mayor on 13 May, while his mother Parveen Rani became mayor on 20 May.
Tushar has also previously worked on the post of Deputy Mayor. According to his father, Tushar had shown interest in community service and social work from an early age. He told that Tushar is always ahead in helping people and working for the society.
When did you become a councilor?
Sunil Dahiya told that when Tushar was studying in a college in London, he was elected councilor at the age of 20. At that time he was studying B.Sc. in Politics. Tushar has completed his graduation from King’s College, London and will soon start his postgraduate degree. Dahiya said, “My younger son is also pursuing his degree from King’s College. He is also a trustee in the King’s College Students Union.”
What new record did Parveen Rani make?
Parveen Rani has become the first Indian-origin mayor of Hertsmere Borough Council. Before this, she had been a cabinet member of the Streetscene, Parks, Recreation and Culture Department. She has also served as the Deputy Mayor of Hertsmere and as a global ambassador for film and television.
