Congress attacks on petrol and diesel price hike, Rahul-Kharge corner the government!

Congress has launched a scathing attack on the Central Government regarding the continuous increase in the prices of petrol and diesel. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and party’s national president Mallikarjun Kharge posted on social media platform X and cornered the Modi government on the issue of inflation.

Rahul Gandhi wrote in the X Post, “Inflation Manav Modi’s attack again. They increase the prices of petrol and diesel in installments so that they can secretly keep draining your pockets. I had been talking about the coming economic storm for months. But Modi ji was busy in the elections as usual and as soon as the elections were over, he made petrol and diesel costlier by Rs 8. This increase will keep on increasing. Inflation Manav Modi has only one job – to make promises in the elections and attack the public’s pockets the rest of the time.”

At the same time, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also targeted the government over the fourth increase in the prices of petrol and diesel within 10 days. He said that the trend of ‘fuel loot’ has not ended yet. Kharge claimed that the price of petrol has increased by Rs 7.35 per liter and that of diesel by Rs 7.53 per liter.

Kharge said in his post that the Modi government has burnt the savings of the common people. Comparing the tenure of the UPA government and the current government, he claimed that between 2004 and 2014, international crude oil prices had increased by more than 175 per cent, whereas there was no similar increase in international crude oil prices during the Modi government.

He alleged that in the year 2014, the price of petrol was Rs 71.41 per liter, which would increase to Rs 102.12 per liter in 2026. This is an increase of 43.01%.

At the same time, the price of diesel increased from Rs 56.71 to Rs 95.20 per liter, which is an increase of 67.87%. Kharge claimed that in the last 12 years, the central government has looted Rs 43 lakh crore through fuel, which means Rs 1000 has been looted every day.

The Congress president also said that with the fourth hike in petrol and diesel prices today, shares of HPCL, BPCL and IOC rose by 5.8%, 4.44% and 3.90% respectively. Giving priority to profits over the interests of the people is in the DNA of BJP.

Every increase in fuel prices is another hit to the household budget and has a cascading effect on every aspect of the economy. From farmers to MSMEs, every section of the society is bearing the brunt of this loot of BJP. Kharge further said, “We repeat again. Who is benefiting from this ‘daily loot’?”
