Trump kept creating suspense on the deal, Iran openly announced – will not charge toll in Hormuz
Desk: Amidst the news of ongoing tension between America and Iran and ongoing talks regarding the agreement, a big statement from Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghei has come to light. On Monday (May 25), he clearly said during the press conference that the management of the Strait of Hormuz comes under the authority of the coastal countries, Iran will not collect toll here, but will charge for the services provided. Earlier, Iran had announced to establish an authority to collect toll tax from places.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry confirmed the imposition of an environment tax on ships, saying, ‘This is not a toll, people should use the correct terminology. Iran and Oman are currently preparing a new protocol. Under this new arrangement, maritime services will be provided to protect the environment of the Strait of Hormuz, Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman, for which it is necessary to collect an environmental tax. We hope that a final agreement will be reached with Oman on this matter soon.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said, ‘The security of Hormuz is a matter of concern for the whole world, but we should also take care of our own security and also consider the concerns of the international community. Iran and Oman want to use the Strait of Hormuz for free trade and safe movement. He further said, ‘What happened was the misuse of this strait for military aggression against Iran. The Deputy Foreign Minister’s visit to Oman is for consultations on setting up a system for safe transit through the Strait of Hormuz. Every responsible country welcomes the establishment of this mechanism.
Baghei said, ‘We are in touch with the countries located around the strait to protect their security and interests.’ Regarding the possible agreement, he said that there are ‘no guarantees’ on America’s commitments and Iran is not concerned about any ‘threat’. He said that among the changes that have taken place, the special thing has been the participation of countries other than Pakistan in mediation and a provision related to ending the Lebanon conflict has also been included in the talks.
The Iranian spokesperson also said that at present the nuclear issue is not being discussed in the US-Iran deal and the focus is on ‘ending the conflict’. Baghei expressed fear that Israel might try to weaken the talks. Baghei has said this at a time when US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is visiting India, said on Monday that some big news can come out today regarding the ongoing talks with Iran.
According to him, no agreement could be reached between the two countries on Sunday, but this should not be considered a big deal. According to Rubio, America has made a strong proposal to Iran. This includes opening Hormuz and holding serious talks on Iran’s nuclear program within the stipulated time.
