Vaibhav Suryavanshi left behind again in the race for Orange Cap, Joffra Archer’s big leap in Purple Cap
Desk. The exciting journey of the league stage of IPL 2026 is over and now all eyes are on the playoffs. But before the knockout matches, the race for Orange Cap and Purple Cap has also created tremendous excitement. On one hand, KL Rahul ended the season with a bang, while on the other hand, Joffra Archer took a leap in the race for the Purple Cap with his lethal bowling. May 24 was the last day of the league stage, where in the matches played, Rajasthan Royals defeated Mumbai Indians to make it to the playoffs, while Delhi Capitals defeated Kolkata Knight Riders to end their disappointing campaign with a win.
In the race for the Orange Cap, Rajasthan Royals’ young star Vaibhav Suryavanshi had a chance to take a long leap, but Mumbai Indians fast bowler Deepak Chahar dismissed him early. Suryavanshi could score only 4 runs and thus could only reach the total figure of 583 runs. After the end of the league stage, Vaibhav is at 5th place in the Orange Cap race. Above him are B Sai Sudarshan, Shubman Gill, Heinrich Klaasen and KL Rahul.
On the last day of the league stage, KL Rahul performed brilliantly before bidding farewell to the tournament. Against Kolkata Knight Riders, Rahul played an explosive inning of 60 runs in just 30 balls. On the basis of this inning, his total in the season reached 593 runs and he achieved fourth position, leaving behind many batsmen including Suryavanshi. However, this situation may change after the playoff matches.
At the same time, Joffra Archer made a big splash in the Purple Cap race. Archer played an important role in taking Rajasthan Royals to the playoffs. He took 3 wickets for 17 runs against Mumbai Indians. Archer dismissed Rohit Sharma and Naman Dheer in the powerplay, while later Hardik Pandya was also sent to the pavilion. After this performance, Archer directly reached third place in the Purple Cap race. He left behind Anshul Kamboj, Rashid Khan and Ishan Malinga. Archer now has 21 wickets in his name. Ahead of him are only Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kagiso Rabada, who have 24-24 wickets in their names. Now in the playoffs, the battle to win the Purple Cap between Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rabada, Archer and Rashid Khan is going to be even more interesting.
