NEET Paper Leak Case: Supreme Court sought answers from the Central Government, NTA and CBI in this matter, said – did not learn lessons from past mistakes

NEET UG 2026: The Supreme Court on Monday made a strong comment on the National Testing Agency (NTA) regarding the NEET UG Paper Leak Case. The court said it was unfortunate that the agency did not learn any lessons from the paper leak controversy that erupted last year. The court has sought answers from the Central Government, NTA and CBI in this matter.

Justice P.S. A bench of Justices Narasimha and Alok Aradhe directed the NTA to file by Thursday a detailed affidavit of the steps taken so far on the directions and recommendations given by the Supreme Court in 2024. The court said that earlier also this matter had reached the Supreme Court, after which a monitoring committee was formed and its recommendations were also accepted.

Demand to change NTA

This matter came to light during the hearing on the petition of Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA). The organization has demanded that a strong and autonomous institution should be created in place of the existing system to conduct a big examination like NEET UG.

The petition said that repeated incidents of paper leaks are a direct attack on the rights of more than 22.7 lakh students. The organization also demanded that a high-powered monitoring committee be formed under the supervision of the Supreme Court until the new institution is formed. It has been suggested to include a retired Supreme Court judge, cyber security expert and forensic scientist.

Report also sought from the committee comprising former ISRO chief

The Supreme Court has also sought answers from the committee constituted by the Central Government which is headed by former ISRO chief K. Radhakrishnan is doing. This committee was formed to improve the functioning of NTA. The court has asked what progress has been made on the recommendations of the commission.

The exam was held on May 3, but was later canceled

NEET UG 2026 exam was held on May 3. However, the exam was canceled on May 12 following allegations of paper leak. The case is currently being investigated by the CBI. The Supreme Court has decided to hear all the petitions related to this case together.
