IPL 2026: Bihari Babu dominates… Vaibhav Suryavanshi breaks T20 world record

15 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has created a stir in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. However, his bat did not fare well against Mumbai Indians on Sunday (24 May). In the ‘do or die’ match of Rajasthan Royals, Vaibhav could score only 4 runs in 6 balls. Despite failing, he has broken a big world record of T20.

By scoring 2 runs, Vaibhav has become the highest run scorer in any T20 tournament as a teenager (under 20). He left Devdutt Padikkal behind. Padikkal had scored 580 runs in the 2019-20 season of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Vaibhav has scored 583 runs in IPL 2026.

Will Vaibhav break Gayle’s record?

Left-handed explosive batsman Vaibhav has hit 53 sixes in the current IPL season. Chris Gayle holds the record for hitting most sixes in a single IPL season. He hit 59 sixes in the 2012 season. This record has remained unbroken for 14 years. Vaibhav had a golden opportunity to break this record but he was out early.

If Rajasthan Royals team loses to Mumbai Indians then this will prove to be Vaibhav’s last innings. If Rajasthan Royals wins, they will make it to the playoffs and Gayle’s record will again be on Vaibhav’s radar.

Vaibhav has broken this record of Gayle

Vaibhav, who comes from Samastipur, Bihar, has already broken Chris Gayle’s record of hitting the fastest 50 sixes in IPL. Gayle had crossed the figure of 50 sixes in 21 innings. Whereas Vaibhav took only 15 innings to reach this milestone. Vaibhav has had a great IPL season and now he is close to joining the Indian team.
