Tension flared in Maharashtra’s Mumbai after a clash broke out between two groups outside Poonam Cluster Society in the Mira Road area over the presence of goats inside the residential premises ahead of Eid Al-Adha celebrations.

According to police officials, the confrontation erupted following objections raised over keeping goats within the society premises for ritual sacrifice associated with the upcoming Islamic festival of Eid Al-Adha, also known as Bakrid.

The dispute quickly escalated into a heated confrontation between residents and groups gathered outside the housing complex, prompting immediate police intervention to prevent the situation from worsening.

Authorities said police personnel were rushed to the spot after receiving information about rising tensions and crowd gathering outside the society. Security arrangements in the area were intensified, with additional police forces deployed to maintain law and order and prevent any further escalation.

Officials confirmed that the situation was brought under control after intervention by law enforcement agencies, though tension continued to prevail in the locality for several hours.

Visuals from the area showed large crowds assembled near the residential complex while police attempted to disperse groups and restore normalcy. Officers also conducted patrols in nearby areas as a precautionary measure.

No major injuries or fatalities had been officially reported at the time of filing this report. However, authorities were monitoring the situation closely given the sensitivity surrounding religious and community-related disputes.

The incident comes ahead of Eid Al-Adha, one of the most significant Islamic festivals, during which animal sacrifice forms an important religious ritual for many Muslim families.

Disputes linked to animal sacrifice locations, transportation of livestock and housing society regulations occasionally emerge in densely populated urban areas during the festival season, especially in cities with large residential complexes and mixed communities.

Police officials stated that discussions were underway with society representatives and local community leaders to ease tensions and ensure peaceful observance of the festival.

Authorities also appealed to residents not to spread rumours or inflammatory content on social media platforms that could aggravate communal tensions.

Mira Road and neighbouring suburban regions have in the past witnessed sporadic disputes over civic, religious and community-related issues, prompting authorities to maintain heightened vigilance during sensitive periods and major festivals.

Local administration officials indicated that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found attempting to disturb public peace or incite violence.

The Mumbai Police and district administration are expected to continue monitoring the situation in the coming days as Eid Al-Adha preparations intensify across the city.
