Bollywood: Imtiaz Ali trolled for calling Deepika Padukone’s image ‘pretense’, now wrote an emotional note on Instagram

Mumbai Famous filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, who called actress Deepika Padukone’s public image a ‘facade’, has issued an official clarification in view of the growing controversy over his recent statement. The director shared an emotional post on social media and made it clear that his statement was not intended to hurt the actress at all, but was just a funny and casual comment.

What was the whole controversy?

The whole controversy started when Imtiaz Ali, in an interview to News18, was reminiscing about the casting days of the 2012 blockbuster film Cocktail. She revealed that the makers first offered Deepika the simple and traditional character of ‘Meera’ (later played by Diana Penty).

However, Imtiaz advised Deepika to choose the bold, bold and carefree character ‘Veronica’ instead. He said that he got to know Deepika’s genuine, fun-loving and vivacious nature through parties and personal meetings. During this conversation, Imtiaz said that in the initial phase, Deepika used to show her very good girl image from outside, but now people have seen the facade of her good girl image. As soon as the interview clip went viral, fans on social media started strongly criticizing the director for the use of the word hypocrisy.

Sensing the growing online outrage and misunderstanding on social media, Imtiaz Ali immediately turned to Instagram. While sharing a screenshot of the controversial news, he wrote a disclaimer note directly addressed to Deepika. In this note, Imtiaz described Deepika as his very close friend and a safe choice for jokes. He also termed his words as his own cheap comedy (Wannabe fun).

The director admitted that some of his friends had warned him that his statement could be misinterpreted and could hurt Deepika. That is why he considered it very important to give a public clarification.
