Donald Trump warns Iran amid US-Iran peace talks, says ‘will turn nukes into dust’
New Delhi: President Donald Trump on Tuesday asked Iran to hand over its enriched uranium to the US so it can be destroyed. Trump said that this uranium is the biggest obstacle to efforts to end the war in the Middle East. He gave the option that if Iran wants, it can destroy uranium in its own country under international supervision.
Proposal made in social media post
President Donald Trump wrote on social media, "Enriched uranium i.e. nuclear dust should be immediately handed over to America so that it can be brought back and destroyed. Or it would be better to destroy it in collaboration with the Islamic Republic of Iran, on the spot or at some approved location." He said that the entire process will be monitored by the Atomic Energy Commission or some other organization.
The main objective is to stop nuclear weapons
In fact, since the war in the Middle East started on February 28, Trump has been continuously saying that his main objective is to stop Iran from making nuclear weapons from highly enriched uranium. Tehran has always denied that it has any plans to build nuclear weapons.
Ceasefire in danger due to American attacks
Trump’s statement came at a time when the US military carried out self-defense attacks on Iranian boats and missile launch sites. US Central Command spokesman Tim Hawkins said that these attacks in southern Iran were carried out to protect American troops from the Iranian army. The targets were missile launch sites and mine laying boats. Due to these attacks, the weak ceasefire which started on April 8 is on the verge of breaking.
There was talk of ending the war in Doha
At the time of the attacks, Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Baqir Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi were in Doha to meet the Qatari prime minister. They were discussing a possible agreement with America to end the war.
Talks are good but compromise is necessary: Trump
On Monday, Trump said that talks with Iran "Good" Is going on, but warned that if the talks fail, there will be new attacks. He wrote on Truth Social that it is either "great deal" There will be or there will be no agreement. Trump wants Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Qatar, Egypt, Turkey and Jordan to join the Abraham Accords as a condition of ending the war.
Emphasis on Abraham Accords
It is noteworthy that the Abraham Accords were signed with the mediation of America during Trump’s first term. Their objective was to normalize relations with Israel. Bahrain and UAE joined in 2020. Egypt, Jordan and Türkiye already recognize Israel.
Saudi Arabia says that first the path to a Palestinian state should be cleared. Pakistan does not have diplomatic relations with Israel. Trump said that except one or two countries, all others will have to sign together.
