NEET Paper Leak: Supreme Court laid emphasis on fixing accountability, said- youth should not be disappointed
New Delhi. The Supreme Court on Friday stressed on fixing accountability for the lapses in the NEET exam question paper leak case, saying if something like this happens, it would be “really very sad” not only for the students but also for their families. “We should not disappoint our youth,” a bench of Justices P S Narasimha and Alok Aradhe said while hearing petitions on the matter.
One of these petitions has sought a direction to reconstitute or replace the National Testing Agency (NTA) and create a strong and autonomous system for conducting the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Graduate (NEET-UG). Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the bench that the government is serious about the concerns of the youth and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is personally monitoring the situation, so that no loopholes are left.
The bench said, “Unless real accountability is fixed, the real problem will not be solved.” The bench said, “If such an incident happens, it is indeed very sad, not only for the students, but also for their families and all the people.”
“They get very emotionally attached to it,” it said. Mehta told the bench that some new arrangements have been implemented for the NEET-UG examination to be held on June 21. The bench asked the Center to file an affidavit in the matter and adjourned the hearing of the case till the second week of July. NTA had conducted the NEET exam on May 3, but the exam was canceled on May 12 amid allegations of question paper leak.
A re-examination has been scheduled for June 21st. This entire episode is now being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). After the question papers of NEET exam 2024 were allegedly leaked, the Supreme Court had refused to cancel the exam but issued several directions aimed at dealing with the question paper leak.
