New Delhi:- Chhattisgarh Health Department has become completely alert amid increasing concern over Ebola virus cases globally. Special screening system has been implemented at Swami Vivekananda Airport in the capital Raipur, where thermal screening and health check-up of the arriving passengers is being done. At present, no Ebola infection has been confirmed in the state, but surveillance has been increased as a precaution.
Separate counter and medical team deployed at the airport
The Health Department has set up special testing counters at Raipur Airport. The medical team deployed here is also checking the travel history of the passengers, especially those who have recently returned from international travel or have transited through African countries. Arrangements have been made to immediately isolate and test passengers in case of symptoms like fever, weakness or vomiting, and a primary isolation facility has also been kept ready in the airport premises.
Provision for immediate isolation in case of suspected symptoms
According to the Health Department, if any traveler shows possible symptoms of Ebola, he will be immediately kept in isolation and further medical examination will be done. Help desks and monitoring counters have also been activated at the airport, where passengers are being given information related to the infection and prevention measures.
Increased vigilance after warning from Center and WHO
The World Health Organization (WHO) has alerted many countries after the increase in Ebola cases in African countries, especially Congo and Uganda. After this, the Government of India has also instructed all the states to be alert and increase surveillance. Although no case of Ebola has been reported in the country yet, health agencies are fully prepared.
Instructions to districts, monitoring will increase in other places also
Chhattisgarh Health Department has instructed the Chief Medical and Health Officers of all the districts to immediately report any suspected case. Apart from Raipur, preparations are being made to increase surveillance in other major cities also. In the coming days, awareness campaigns are also likely to be conducted at crowded places like railway stations and bus stands.
Instructions to hospitals to remain alert
In view of the possible threat of Ebola virus, hospitals in the state have also been put on alert mode. The Health Department says that although the risk of spreading the infection may be low, early vigilance is very important. This campaign of screening and monitoring at the airport will continue till further orders, while the situation is currently said to be completely under control.
