What can be the cases if deepfaked?
Many serious legal cases can be registered for tarnishing someone’s image, cheating or creating obscene material by using deepfake. FIR can be registered against the culprits under the Information Technology (IT) Act, Indian Penal Code (IPC) and new laws. A case may be filed under the IT Act (IT Act, 2000). In this, there can be a jail term of 3 years and a fine of up to Rs 2 lakh. Apart from this, there can also be a case of defamation, in which the punishment can be up to 2 years in jail, fine or both.
