‘4th National Armwrestling and Para Armwrestling Championship – 2026’ begins at Rashtriya Raksha University

More than 2 thousand players from 27 states and union territories of the country including Gujarat will showcase their skills at the RRU campus for four days.

Dahegam, 30 May 2026 – National Defense University The ‘4th National Armwrestling and Para Armwrestling Championship-2026’ is starting here. The ‘4th National Armwrestling and Para Armwrestling Championship-2026’ was inaugurated today at Rashtriya Raksha University, Gandhinagar under the chairmanship of Smt. Preeti Jhangia, President of People’s Arm Wrestling Federation India-PAFI.

More than two thousand players from 27 states and union territories of the country including Gujarat are participating in this four-day competition organized by the joint venture of Arm Wrestling Federation of Gujarat and People’s Arm Wrestling Federation India.

On this occasion, President of People Arm Wrestling Federation India, Mrs. Preeti Jhangiani boosted the enthusiasm of all the players from various states and union territories participating in the competition by congratulating them for their excellent performance. Mrs. Preeti expressed special thanks to the organizers of RRU for beautifully organizing this competition.

Vice Chancellor of National Defense University, Dr. Bimal N. Patel, while congratulating the players through virtual medium, had said that this championship will prove to be important in realizing Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of strengthening the sports and cultural heritage and reviving values ​​through discipline, fitness and excellence. The Vice Chancellor expressed happiness over the increasing performance of India’s sports at the global level and described sports as a strong pillar of national development.

Actor Sunil Shetty, through his video message, had inspired the youth across the country to actively participate in sports and be a part of such a national platform.

In the 3rd National Championship held at Thrissur, Kerala, 1,700 players from 25 states participated, compared to which the participation of more than 2,000 players from 27 states in the fourth edition being held at RRU today shows the unprecedented growth of the game.

It is noteworthy that 8 different games of ‘World Police and Fire Games’ to be held in Ahmedabad-Gujarat in the year 2029 are to be organized at RRU, for which necessary infrastructure has also been prepared. Keeping this active role of the university in mind and with the aim of accelerating Gujarat’s growing contribution in the national and global sports ecosystem, this competition has been organized. Behind this planning is also attached the vision of making a strong claim of Ahmedabad-Gujarat for hosting the Olympic Games in 2036.

On this occasion, Byad MLA Mr. Dhawal Singh Zala, Pro-Panja League owner Mr. Praveen Dabas, RRU Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Kalpesh Vandra, Registrar Mr. Dharmesh Prajapati, Director of School of Physical Education and Sports Mr. Yash Sharma, Sports Training Officer Mr. Kalpesh Sharma, Minister of Arm Wrestling Association of Gujarat Mr. Rajendra Parmar, officials and representatives of Armwrestling Association of Gujarat and a large number of competitors from different states were present.
