Andhra Pradesh targets Green Energy push: CM Chandrababu Naidu orders fast-track solarisation and EV charging expansion

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday directed officials to accelerate the implementation of large-scale solarisation projects across government buildings, schools, hostels and residential households, while also expanding electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the state as part of Andhra Pradesh’s broader green energy and digital transformation roadmap.

During a high-level review meeting in Amaravati, the Chief Minister stressed that Andhra Pradesh should position itself as a global hub for green energy, cybersecurity and emerging technologies. Officials said the government is aiming to integrate renewable energy expansion with advanced digital infrastructure to support long-term industrial growth and sustainability goals.

Naidu instructed departments to speed up the installation of rooftop solar systems in public institutions, including government offices, educational institutions and welfare hostels, in order to reduce electricity costs and improve energy efficiency. The government is also planning to encourage wider household adoption of solar power as part of its clean energy transition strategy.

Alongside the renewable energy push, the Chief Minister emphasised rapid development of EV charging infrastructure across urban centres, highways and public utility locations. Officials said the expansion is aimed at supporting rising electric vehicle adoption in the state and attracting investments in the clean mobility sector.

The Andhra Pradesh government is also placing strong focus on technology-led governance and infrastructure modernisation. Naidu highlighted initiatives such as the proposed Digital Twin Grid project, which is being described as India’s first such initiative. The project is expected to create a virtual replica of the state’s power infrastructure system to improve monitoring, efficiency and predictive maintenance capabilities.

The Chief Minister further underlined the importance of the World Economic Forum-supported Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR), which the state sees as a major platform for innovation in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, digital governance and advanced industrial technologies.

Officials said Andhra Pradesh is attempting to align its infrastructure expansion plans with global clean energy and smart governance trends, especially at a time when multiple Indian states are competing to attract green investments and technology manufacturing units.

The latest push comes amid the Centre’s continued emphasis on renewable energy expansion, electric mobility and digital infrastructure development. India has been rapidly increasing its renewable energy capacity while encouraging states to strengthen local clean energy ecosystems through solar projects, EV adoption policies and smart grid technologies.

The Andhra Pradesh government believes the combined focus on renewable energy, EV infrastructure and digital systems could help generate employment opportunities, attract global investments and strengthen industrial competitiveness in the coming years.

More detailed implementation timelines and project-level announcements are expected in the coming months as departments begin execution of the Chief Minister’s directives.
