BCCI has prepared a list of 30 probables for the Asian Games; Vaibhav Suryavanshi also included
New Delhi. Indian T20 team captain Suryakumar Yadav will not be the captain of the Indian team in the Asian Games to be held in Aichi-Nagoya (Japan) from September 19 this year. Not only this, he will not even be in the team for these games. He has not been included among the probables for the Asian Games by the BCCI. At the same time, 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made a splash with his bat in the IPL, is going to make a place in the Asian Games team. He has got a place among the probables.
The probables include 13 cricketers from the 15-member team that won the T-20 World Cup. Apart from Surya and Siraj, there are cricketers like Bumrah, Samson, Abhishek, Hardik Pandya, Rinku, Ishaan. Due to which it is believed that the Indian team will defend its gold medal in Japan under the leadership of the new captain mostly on the strength of its main cricketers. Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal are also included in the Asian Games long list given by BCCI. BCCI will soon announce the 15-member team for these games.
Vaibhav likely to join team before Asiad
The voice for inclusion of Vaibhav in the Indian team is gaining momentum. He has also staked his claim to be included in the team with his performance in the IPL. By including him among the probables for the Asiad, BCCI has also indicated that he will be in the team soon. However, before the Asiad, India has to play two T20s in Ireland from June 26, five T20s and three ODIs in England in July, three T20s in Zimbabwe from July 23 and two Tests and two T20s in Sri Lanka in August. In such a situation, his place in the Indian team can also be made in these tours before the Asiad.
30 cricketers among the probables
It is also certain that Surya will not play in the Asiad because BCCI has included 30 cricketers in the long list of the Asiad. Only from these 15 member team can be selected. Players outside these will not be able to choose selectors. The long list has been sent to the organizers. Nine members of the team that won the gold under the captaincy of Rutraj Gaikwad in 2023 have got a place among the probables. Rutraj is also among them.
Coach will not be serious in Asiad
Indian team’s head coach Gautam Gambhir will not be with the Indian team in the Asian Games. His name is not in the long list. Men’s cricket in the Asiad will be held from September 24 to October 3. Meanwhile, from October 27 to October 6, India has to play three ODIs against West Indies. Gambhir will join Shubman Gill’s team here. VVS Laxman has been given a place as coach in the long list. In such a situation, there is a possibility of Laxman becoming the coach of the team.
