Major accident in Delhi: 5 storey building collapses near Saket, many people feared trapped under debris
A painful accident came to light in Saket area of the capital Delhi on Saturday evening. A five-storey building suddenly collapsed in Saidulajab, Mehrauli police station area of South Delhi, causing chaos in the entire area. Many people are feared buried under the debris after the accident.
According to eyewitnesses, as soon as the building collapsed, a loud bang-like sound was heard and within no time the entire building turned into a pile of debris. Local people immediately started relief and rescue operations and informed the administration.
Rescue operation going on war footing
The fire department received information about the incident at around 7:45 pm, after which police, fire brigade personnel and medical team reached the spot. The rescue team is continuously searching for people trapped under the debris.
According to preliminary information, four to five people have been evacuated safely so far. All the injured have been immediately admitted to the nearest hospital, where their treatment is ongoing.
More people feared trapped under debris
Officials say that relief and rescue operations are still going on and the possibility of many more people being trapped under the debris cannot be ruled out. As a precautionary measure, nearby buildings and shops are being evacuated so that any further untoward incident can be avoided.
Accident occurred due to collapse of ruined building
Initial investigation by the police has revealed that a dilapidated and ruined building fell on a nearby residential building, due to which this major accident occurred. Senior police officers are continuously monitoring the situation at the spot. At present, the first priority of the administration is to safely rescue the people trapped under the debris and provide all possible medical aid to the injured.
