The 90s are considered very special for Hindi cinema. 1. Son (1992)
Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit starrer film Beta was one of the biggest hits of 1992. The story of the film was about a son who gets trapped in the conspiracies of his stepmother. People still remember the songs and dialogues of this film. Very few people know that this film was a remake of the 1987 Tamil film ‘Enga Chinna Rasa’. Some changes were made to the story for the Hindi audience, but the original story was taken from the South film itself.
2. Judwaa (1997)
Salman Khan’s double role film ‘Judwaa’ was among the most entertaining films of that time. A great mix of comedy, action and romance was seen in the film. This film was a remake of the Telugu superhit film Hello Brother. The special thing is that the direction of both the films was influenced by the style of South filmmakers, who were considered father figures to director David Dhawan, and the story was also liked by the Hindi audience.
3. Heritage (1997)
Anil Kapoor, Tabu and Amrish Puri’s film Virasat is counted among the best films of Hindi cinema. Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Sushmita Sen and Anil Kapoor starrer Biwi No.1 was one of the biggest comedy films of the late 90s. This film was a remake of the Tamil film ‘Sati Leelavati’. It was made even more popular by adding comedy and entertainment to the Hindi edition. The songs and characters of the film are still remembered by people.
5. Suryavansham (1999)
If we talk about the most shown films on TV, then the name of ‘Suryavansham’ is definitely taken. This film with Amitabh Bachchan in double role achieved cult status with time. This film was the Hindi remake of the Tamil film ‘Sooryavansham’. Both films were directed by EVV Satyanarayana and the story was adapted for the Hindi audience.
6. Shakti: The Power
Karisma Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Deepti Naval and Shahrukh Khan starrer thriller film ‘Shakti: The Power’ was a remake of the Telugu film ‘Anthapuram’, this film was also made by director Krishna Vamsi. Interestingly, the story of Anthapuram is inspired by the real incident of American writer Betty Mahmoodi and her book ‘Not Without My Daughter’, on which the Hollywood film ‘Not Without My Daughter’ was later made. ‘Anthapuram’ came in 1998.
