60 out of 80 Mamata Banerjee MLAs went missing, did not reach TMC meeting, created panic

New Delhi. All is not well in Trinamool Congress (TMC) after the crushing defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections. Many MLAs and MPs are said to be angry. This got further strength on Sunday, when 60 out of 80 MLAs did not turn up for the meeting to be held at Mamata’s house after the attack on Abhishek Banerjee. This caused a stir.

According to sources, an important meeting was organized at Mamata’s house on Sunday, in which MLAs were called, but 60 MLAs remained missing from the meeting, due to which it had to be cancelled. However, later the party clarified that all the MLAs were busy in the case of attack on Abhishek and Kalyan Banerjee and that was the reason why they did not attend Mamata’s meeting.

NDTV quoted TMC sources as saying that this meeting was called by the party’s legislature party leader Shobhandev Chattopadhyay at Mamata Banerjee’s house. The MLAs were waited for a long time, but when they did not arrive, the meeting had to be cancelled. It was also not possible to contact the MLAs who were absent. Because of this, questions are being raised whether there is going to be a big split in TMC.

TMC had to face a big defeat in the Bengal Assembly elections held last month. Mamata Banerjee herself lost the election from Bhawanipur seat. BJP won a total of 208 seats, while TMC had to be content with just 80 seats. After this defeat, there was open opposition to Mamata Banerjee and the former TMC government in hushed tones. Many TMC MPs and MLAs themselves came against the previous government of their own party and opposed many of its decisions. On May 6, Mamata Banerjee called a meeting regarding the defeat, in which about 10 MLAs did not turn up.

However, the party still clarified that there was nothing to worry about and those MLAs had already given the information. They were asked to remain there due to unrest in their respective areas. Several TMC MPs, including Kakoli Ghosh, also openly expressed their displeasure and resigned from the post of Barasat district president.

He also demanded action against his own party’s MP Kalyan Banerjee. At the same time, immediately after the defeat, party spokesperson Riju Dutta also started protesting, due to which he was expelled from the party for six years. After this, Dutta openly launched a front against Mamata and Abhishek Banerjee. At the same time, Shantanu Sen, Arup Chakraborty also resigned from the post of spokesperson.
