IPL 2026 Winner: After Dhoni-Rohit, only Rajat Patidar! RCB champion for the second consecutive time, captain created history
IPL 2026 Winner (RCB vs GT): Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has won the IPL 2026 title by 5 wickets. By registering a resounding win against Gujarat Titans (GT), RCB not only became champions for the second time in a row, but its captain Rajat Patidar also got his name written in golden letters in the pages of history. With this historic win, Patidar has joined an ‘elite club’ of the IPL, a place where only two legendary captains have been able to reach till now. In fact, Patidar has become only the third captain in the history of IPL who has led his team to win the title twice in a row.
Patidar joins the exclusive club of Dhoni and Rohit
In the history of the IPL, the feat of lifting the trophy in two consecutive seasons has only been achieved by the league’s two most successful captains, MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won the title twice in a row in 2010 and 2011. Similarly, under his captaincy, Rohit Sharma made Mumbai Indians (MI) champions twice in a row in 2019 and again in the very next season, 2020. Now, by leading RCB to victory this season, Rajat Patidar has equaled these two legends.
A ‘golden period’ for RCB
In the last season (2025), under the captaincy of Rajat Patidar, RCB won their first IPL trophy, ending a drought of 18 years and in this season (2026) too, the team maintained its dominance from the beginning. After topping the points table in the league stage, the team first defeated Gujarat in Qualifier 1, and now by defeating them in the final by 5 wickets, they have achieved the distinction of becoming champions twice in a row.
History created by settling accounts in Ahmedabad
This final match was played at Gujarat’s home ground, Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Gujarat had defeated RCB by 4 wickets during the league stage on this ground. A match in which Shubman Gill’s bat played very well. However, on the biggest stage of the final, Patidar’s team not only settled the score of that previous defeat but also created a new history by facing the challenge of Shubman Gill and winning the trophy on the same ground in Ahmedabad. Now is the time for celebration for RCB fans, as their team has now become a ‘dominating champion’ from just a ‘defending champion’.
