Senior IPS Rajeev Krishna becomes full-time Director General of Police of Uttar Pradesh!
The information has been given by Additional Chief Secretary Sanjay Prasad. With this, the wait for a full-time DGP, which had been going on since the resignation of the then DGP Mukul Goyal in the year 2022, ended. Rajeev Krishna was commanding the state police as acting DGP for more than a year.
His name was finalized after deliberations at the government level on a panel of three senior officers sent by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). After the meeting held on May 26, the Commission had sent the names of 1990 batch IPS officer Renuka Mishra and 1991 batch IPS officers Piyush Anand and Rajiv Krishna to the state government.
Keeping in mind his administrative experience, law and order management and organizational ability, the state government decided to hand over the leadership of the police force to Rajiv Krishna. His appointment has come at a time when the state government has included crime control, technology-based policing and investment-friendly law and order among its priorities.
Rajeev Krishna has extensive experience of more than three decades in the police service. He has held many important positions related to intelligence, law and order, police modernization and administrative management. Before becoming acting DGP, he was holding important responsibilities like DG Intelligence and Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board.
He also has long experience in field policing. He has been the police chief of many important districts including Lucknow, Agra, Mathura, Etawah and Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida). During his deployment in Etawah, his role in the operations against bandit gangs was especially discussed.
Apart from this, he has also served as ADG of Lucknow Zone and IG Operations in Border Security Force (BSF) on central deputation. Rajiv Krishna, who has a background in Electronics and Communication Engineering, was born on 26 June 1969 in Gautam Buddha Nagar. He joined the Indian Police Service on 15 September 1991 as an officer of the 1991 batch.
During his career he received promotions at various levels, reaching the rank of Director General of Police in February 2024. The minimum tenure of a permanent DGP appointed under the guidelines of the Supreme Court and the selection process of UPSC is two years. In such a situation, Uttar Pradesh Police is expected to get a relatively stable command under the leadership of Rajiv Krishna.
