Former West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee spoke to the media regarding the attack on her nephew and the split in the party. He accused the BJP of trying to split the party. Blaming the government, she said the police were preventing Trinamool Congress MLAs from attending party meetings and threatening them.

Alleging that the government is threatening to split the party, Mamata Banerjee said, “Today is your time, that’s why you are doing this.” Responding to questions about MLAs not attending party meetings, she said, “Yesterday, four of my elected MLAs complained to me that the police were threatening them over phone before attending the meetings.”

Reminding the police of their responsibility, she said, “It is the job of the police to protect the public, but they are threatening MLAs.” Mamata Banerjee said, “I feel ashamed to see the police.” He further said that the Bengal government has withdrawn his security.
