There will be a huge fall in petrol prices! After E20, now E30 petrol will create a stir, know the government’s new plan
Amidst the continuously increasing prices of petrol and diesel in India, the central government is working on a new masterstroke to provide great relief to the general public. The government is taking rapid steps towards promoting Ethanol Blended Petrol in the country. At present, E20 petrol has been successfully implemented across the country, which contains a mixture of 20 percent ethanol and 80 percent conventional petrol.
But the government is not going to stop here now. Now, going even further, preparations are being made to launch high ethanol blended fuel options like E22, E25 and E30 at petrol pumps across the country. According to the reports coming out, in the coming time, vehicle owners will get complete freedom to choose different ethanol blended petrol at the petrol pump as per the need of their vehicle and engine capacity. If this plan gets off the ground, the face of India’s fuel market will change forever.
Know what is ethanol and why is it special
Ethanol is actually a type of biofuel, which is mainly prepared from sugarcane, corn and other agricultural products. The biggest objective of mixing ethanol in petrol is to reduce India’s foreign dependence on crude oil imports and to reduce environmental pollution.
If we understand in simple words, E20 means that the fuel contains 20 percent ethanol and 80 percent petrol. Similarly, E25 will contain 25 percent ethanol and E30 will contain 30 percent ethanol. The higher the amount of ethanol in the fuel, the less will be the use of petrol. The government believes that this step will save the country billions of rupees on foreign oil imports and India will be able to become self-reliant in the energy sector.
Many options will be available at petrol pump, BIS tightens its belt
After the implementation of this new scheme, the view of petrol pumps is going to change completely. Customers will not get only one type of normal or premium petrol, rather they will be able to choose between E20, E22, E25 or E30 as per their pocket and the engine of the vehicle.
According to the latest reports, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is currently working day and night on the process of standardization for E30 ethanol blended petrol. This means that all the technical and quality related preparations required to launch E30 petrol in the market are in the final stages. As soon as all its rules and standards are decided by BIS, E30 petrol will start being available at pumps across the country.
Cars will run without petrol, Maruti and Hero’s grand plan
With this decision of the government to promote ethanol blended fuel, big automobile companies of the country are also working rapidly on Flex-Fuel technology. Flex-fuel vehicles are such advanced vehicles, whose engines are designed in such a way that they can run smoothly on ethanol mixed fuel of different proportions without any malfunction.
Maruti Suzuki and Hero MotoCorp are seen at the forefront in this race. If reports are to be believed, Hero MotoCorp may launch its first motorcycle on June 3 which will be capable of running on E100 i.e. 100 percent ethanol. This means that this bike will not require even a drop of petrol to run. Similarly, the country’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki is also preparing to launch a car which will be able to use 100 percent ethanol fuel (E100).
Keep this in mind before choosing fuel
If petrol with different ethanol blends are available in the market, customers will have more choice and they will be able to avoid expensive petrol prices. However, there is a catch in this also. Not all vehicles or older engines in the country are prepared to handle high-ethanol blends like E25 or E30. Therefore, customers will have to go to the petrol pump and choose only that fuel which has been recommended by the manufacturer of their vehicle, otherwise there can be a risk of the vehicle’s engine getting damaged.
