Congress to release Karnataka ministerial list on June 3, says CM-designate DK Shivakumar

Congress will announce the list of ministers for the Karnataka cabinet on Wednesday, June 3, ahead of the swearing-in ceremony, Chief Minister-designate DK Shivakumar stated.

Speaking at a press conference near his Sadashivanagar residence, Shivakumar rejected reports suggesting that names of members selected for ministerial positions had been finalized. “The names appearing in the media regarding the selection of ministers are not official. The high command leaders will release the list of ministers tomorrow at 10 am or noon,” he said.

He added that the decision rests with the party’s high command, and once received from Delhi, the final list will be submitted to Raj Bhavan in Karnataka. “The high command leaders discussed the selection of ministers and we have expressed our opinion. The high command leaders will take the final decision. After the Delhi leaders send us the list, we will send it to Raj Bhavan,” he said.

Shivakumar also announced that the foundation stone-laying ceremony of Congress Bhavan will be held on a different day than originally planned. He will meet block and district presidents, office bearers, and guarantee committee members at Bharat Jodo Bhavan following the oath ceremony and cabinet meeting. “We have decided to hold the Congress Bhavan foundation stone laying ceremony, which was supposed to be held tomorrow evening, on another day. Block, district presidents, office bearers and guarantee committee members who have received invitations should arrive at Bharat Jodo Bhavan, the Congress office. I will hold a cabinet meeting, bid farewell to Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge and then meet them at Bharat Jodo Bhavan,” he said.

The swearing-in ceremony for Shivakumar as Chief Minister is scheduled for 4 pm at Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru on June 3.

Earlier on the same day, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi held a crucial meeting in Delhi with Karnataka CM-designate DK Shivakumar and senior leader Siddaramaiah to finalize the state’s new Cabinet and candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls.

The meeting at the party headquarters followed Siddaramaiah’s resignation as Chief Minister, initiating the scheduled leadership transition that will enable Shivakumar to lead the state government.

This meeting is significant as the Congress high command moves closer to finalizing the composition of the new Karnataka cabinet, including ministerial appointments, the Deputy Chief Minister post, and organizational restructuring within the state unit.

Prior to the meeting, Siddaramaiah met with party leaders in Delhi, and Karnataka Congress MLA Priyank Kharge also met Mallikarjun Kharge amid speculation about his role in the new cabinet. Further details on the final cabinet structure are expected after the high-level discussions conclude.
