‘Mamata Banerjee should become our guide…’, 60 MLAs are with TMC even after the rebellion?

There has been a massive rebellion in Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal. On behalf of Mamata Banerjee, it was announced that Shobhandeb Chattopadhyay would be made the leader of opposition. Now the Speaker of the Assembly has declared Ritabrata Banerjee as the Leader of Opposition. This is because 58 TMC MLAs have supported the name of Ritabrata. Despite this split, all the rebel MLAs including Ritabrata Banerjee herself are calling Mamata Banerjee as their leader. These MLAs have appealed to Mamata Banerjee to become their guide. Taking on Abhishek Banerjee, these MLAs have said that he (Abhishek Banerjee) will have no role in all this.

On the other hand, amidst this rebellion of most of the party MLAs, a meeting of senior TNC MLAs was called at Mamata Banerjee’s house. Senior party leaders including Kalyan Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee attended this meeting. Amidst the silence of Mamata Banerjee camp and the aggression of Ritabrata Banerjee camp, it is being said that if Mamata’s attitude does not soften, then this group can also lay claim to the party’s symbol. However, for now Ritabrata Banerjee himself is saying that his leader is Mamata Banerjee. Some MLAs have also said that they will continue their ideological fight against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

‘No hatred towards Mamta, no hatred for Abhishek Banerjee’

After getting his name approved as the Leader of Opposition, Ritabrata Banerjee said, ‘There is no place for me here. There is no place for ‘I’ in this group of two-thirds MLAs of Trinamool Congress, we believe in ‘we’. We want Mamata Banerjee to be our advisor. We want him to advise us, this will help us strengthen our position as the opposition.

On the question asked about Abhishek Banerjee, Ritabrata Banerjee said, ‘The first thing is that the investigation is going on. Tomorrow also I and Sandipan Saha will be interrogated by CID. We have seen that the names of those who were not in the meeting have also been written. It is being investigated, I cannot say anything on this. If I talk about the 18th Assembly of Bengal, Abhishek Banerjee has no connection with it. As an MP, he has brought a letter with fake signature. Now the Speaker of the Assembly has the right to decide what he will do. In such a situation, this has happened with the elected people and if the Speaker finds it right then he can also write to the Speaker to reject the Lok Sabha membership of Abhishek Banerjee.

Taking a dig at Abhishek Banerjee, Ritabraj Banerjee has further said, ‘Abhishek Banerjee has had no role in this. The public also has no relation with them. If there was a relationship then it would not have remained hidden for 26 days. They were beaten like thieves. Then he said that the people will protect him. None of us sought protection from the state or central government. After being beaten that day, Abhishek Banerjee wrote a letter to the Center asking that his security be increased. We believe that Mamata Banerjee is a great leader, so we want her to be our guide.

‘Ideological fight against BJP will continue’

Regarding this, TMC leader Prasun Banerjee has said, ‘Our ideological fight against BJP will continue. Where government support is needed, that will also continue. What you are seeing today is nothing unique. It is just that most of the MLAs have together elected four people who will lead our legislative party in the Assembly. In parliamentary democracy, it is necessary for both the ruling party and the opposition to be present in the House so that positive discussion can take place. In such a situation, all the MLAs have jointly taken this decision.

MLA Sandipan Saha, who was expelled from TMC, said, ‘The LoP room has been allotted and the opposition leader is sitting there. Everyone will do their own work. We would like Mamata Didi to remain our advisor and give us advice and we should run the party well inside the Assembly regarding LoP and Chief Whip. Regarding the plight of the party, everyone is saying that it is the failure of Abhishek Banerjee. If you take credit when things are good, you have to take responsibility even when things are bad.
