LPG Cylinder Refund: You get full money back on returning the gas cylinder! Know this secret rule of working with customers immediately

LPG gas cylinder is used in almost every house in India, but do you know that your gas cylinder is like a piggy bank for you? Yes, when you get a new gas connection, a security deposit is taken from you in exchange for the cylinder and regulator. Most of the people in the country mistake it as a permanent fee or purchase charge, whereas the reality is that this money is deposited with the gas company as your security.

If you disconnect your gas connection for any reason and return the goods to the company, you have a legal right to get the entire money back. Often, after changing house, shifting to another city or taking a new connection, people throw the old cylinder in the junk or in a corner of the house and do not claim their refund. Due to lack of information, crores of rupees of the general public are still gathering dust in the records of gas companies. If you follow the correct procedure as per the rules, you can get your stuck money back in a jiffy.

Whenever a consumer surrenders his LPG connection and returns the cylinder and regulator to the gas agency, the entire security amount paid at the time of taking the connection is returned to him. Let us tell you that this amount may be different for every customer, because the rates of security deposit have been changing in different years.

Subscription voucher is the biggest weapon, what to do if it gets lost?

While getting a new gas connection, the gas company gives you a very important document, which is called Subscription Voucher (SV). It is clearly recorded in this paper that how much security amount was deposited by you while taking the connection. When you apply for a refund, your money is calculated on the basis of this voucher.

Now the question arises that what if your connection is very old and your subscription voucher or receipt is lost? There is no need to worry, even in such a situation your right to get a refund is not lost. Your entire old record is present in the computer system of your gas agency. The consumer can easily complete his refund process by getting his identity verified and submitting a necessary declaration or affidavit.

Now refund comes directly into bank account, money for remaining gas will also be available

In earlier times, many gas agencies used to give the refund amount in cash, but now in the era of Digital India, to increase transparency, most gas companies transfer the refund amount directly to the customer’s bank account. For this, it is important that your bank details and LPG records are completely updated.

Here is another amazing thing worth knowing. If there is some gas left in your cylinder at the time of surrendering the connection, the agency will not throw it away. The gas agency will evaluate the remaining gas based on the weight of your cylinder. According to the rules of the companies, the consumer can also be paid the current price of the remaining gas along with a refund.

There is a great facility even for those changing cities.

If your job is such that there are frequent transfers or you are shifting to a new city where the service of your existing gas company (like Indane, HP or Bharat Gas) is not available, then you do not need to worry. You can get ‘Termination Voucher’ (TV) by disconnecting the connection in your current city. After this, you can easily go to a new place and get a new connection and get the accounts of your old security amount settled there.

What are the rules on 5 kg ‘Chhotu’ cylinder?

If you have a small i.e. 5 kg ‘Chhotu’ LPG cylinder, then the rules for returning it are also very easy. On returning it, oil marketing companies give a fixed refund of up to ₹ 500 per cylinder. The best thing about this facility is that it is not bound by any time limit. The customer can return this small cylinder and get his money back after any number of years of purchase. Apart from this, if you also return the regulator, the security deposit deposited for the same is paid separately.

How is the refund of 14.2 kg domestic cylinder decided?

In the case of large 14.2 kg domestic gas cylinders generally used in homes, there is no fixed refund amount. The simple rule here is that the customer will get back the same amount that he had paid as security deposit on the receipt while taking the connection. This is the reason why there is a huge difference in the refund amount of old and new connection holders.

If we look at the history, at different times the security deposit on 14.2 kg domestic cylinder has been ₹ 1,250, ₹ 1,450, ₹ 2,000 and later up to ₹ 2,200. So your refund amount will depend on what date or year your connection is. For example, if you had taken a connection years ago by depositing ₹1,250, then upon surrender you will get back only ₹1,250, not today’s increased rate (₹2,200). Similarly, a separate security deposit is also taken for the regulator, which has ranged from ₹150 to ₹250 from time to time, and this money is also refunded to you in full.

Note these things before applying for refund

To get your stuck money back without any hassle, it is very important to keep some things in mind. Always carry your original subscription voucher, a valid ID proof and your bank account passbook or canceled check details to make your refund process superfast. If you do not have the old papers, then directly meet the dealer of your gas agency and get your records verified. Your entire security amount will be credited directly into your bank account once you submit the correct documents and equipment in safe condition.
