Asaram, who is serving life sentence in rape case, again admitted to hospital…Treatment continues in Jodhpur amid tight security.

Jaipur/Jodhpur. Asaram, who is serving life imprisonment in the case of sexual assault of a minor, has once again been admitted to the hospital due to health reasons. He was taken from Jodhpur Central Jail to Arogyam Hospital amid tight police security, where he is under medical observation.

According to the hospital administration, Asaram was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday night. Heavy police force remained deployed during his transfer and he was taken to the hospital in an ambulance under tight security.

According to the information, after surrendering in jail, Asaram had filed a petition in the Rajasthan High Court citing health problems, seeking permission for treatment at Arogyam Hospital. This matter also came before the vacation bench.

It is noteworthy that earlier on May 28, following the order of Rajasthan High Court, he had reached Jodhpur. At that time a large number of his supporters were present at the airport. After this he went to his ashram, from where his medical examination was done at AIIMS Jodhpur and later he surrendered in the Central Jail.

The Division Bench of the Rajasthan High Court, while upholding the life sentence awarded by the lower court, had made it clear that Asaram would have to remain in jail for the rest of his life. The court had also remarked that the mental trauma caused to the victim cannot be forgotten throughout her life. After this his interim bail was cancelled.

This case dates back to August 2013, when an allegation of sexual harassment of a minor student came to light in the ashram located in Jodhpur. In April 2018, the lower court had convicted him and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
