Rajasthan government bans new admissions in Mewar University, investigation into irregularities underway
Rajasthan government has put a temporary ban on new admissions in Mewar University located in Chittorgarh. An investigation is underway against the university for alleged fake degree distribution and other administrative irregularities. Based on the investigation report, the Higher Education Department has initiated action and imposed a ban on new admissions before the final decision.
Mewar University located at Gangarar in Chittorgarh district has once again come into the center of controversy. Rajasthan government has decided to ban new admissions in the university. This step has been taken after long standing complaints against the university and the report of the inquiry committee. The government says that until the investigation process is completed and all the facts are reviewed, new students will not be allowed to take admission.
The special investigation committee constituted under the chairmanship of Udaipur Divisional Commissioner had recently submitted its report to the state government. Based on the alleged irregularities revealed in the report, the Higher Education Department has issued a show cause notice to the university. The university administration has submitted its reply to the government, which is currently being reviewed.
Mewar University had earlier also been accused of issuing fake degrees. Investigative agencies are active in this matter and action has also been taken against some former officials and employees. With the increasing scope of the investigation, many questions have been raised regarding the functioning of the university.
Apart from this, this year a controversy also came to light regarding the B.Sc Nursing course. The students alleged that the course in which they were given admission did not have the necessary recognition from the relevant regulatory bodies. Students protested on this issue and the matter reached the police. This incident has raised more questions regarding the administrative system of the university.
More than ten thousand students are studying in the university. The ban on new admissions has created uncertainty among the students and their families preparing for future admissions. Many students now want to know when the admission process will start after the completion of the investigation and what effect it will have on the studies of the existing students.
The government has clarified that the current measure applies only to new entries and further action will be decided after the investigation is completed.
The university administration has expressed its objections against the government’s decision. The President of the University has said that no final conclusion has been reached against the institution yet and the investigation process is ongoing. He says that if a person has committed any wrongdoing at an individual level, the responsibility cannot be placed on the entire university.
The management has indicated that the ban on new entries may be challenged in court. Now all eyes are on the next action of the government and the possible judicial process.
