Hope bridges break ground in Dong Thap and Tay Ninh

On June 2, at Hoa Dinh 1 Hamlet, Phong Hoa Commune, Dong Thap Province, Hope Bridge 457 broke ground to replace an old, narrow, and degraded bridge that no longer met the daily travel and goods transportation needs of local people.

Le Trong Linh, Secretary and Head of Hoa Dinh 1 Hamlet, said local people had long desired a solid bridge with high load capacity to serve the transportation of fertilizers and agricultural products. The new bridge will also help students travel to school more safely.

“Upon hearing the news of a new bridge, people here were very excited,” Linh said.

Hope Bridge 457 will measure 24 meters in length and 3.5 meters in width, with an estimated cost of over VND300 million (US$11,400), with Roche Vietnam Co., Ltd. sponsoring VND100 million ($3,800) through Hope Foundation.

Three other bridges – Hope Bridges 453, 455, and 456 – broke ground on the same day in Phong Hoa and Tan Phu Trung communes. These projects are supported by lecturers and students from FPT Polytechnic College. All were proposed by local authorities based on urgent transportation needs, especially for students’ daily commutes

Also on June 2, residents living along Thuy Dien canal in Phu Tho Commune, Dong Thap Province, gathered to attend the inauguration ceremony of Hope Bridge 443.

The new bridge replaces a severely deteriorated old bridge with a broken pier that posed significant safety risks. Its bumpy surface forced many people to take long detours, increasing time and costs for agricultural transport.

Local resident Tran Ngoc Hai said that since construction began, people had been eagerly awaiting completion. “We are very grateful to Hope Foundation and the sponsors. With the new bridge, residents can now travel much more safely,” he said.

Hope Bridge 443 is a reinforced concrete structure, 36 meters long and 4 meters wide. Hope Foundation sponsored VND180 million ($6,800), of which the Do Gia family and friends contributed VND130 million ($4,900).

Attending the inauguration, Huynh Minh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee, said that the Hope Bridges have helped connect rural transport routes, facilitating residents’ travel and economic exchanges while supporting students on their way to school. These projects also provide important resources to help the locality meet transportation criteria in new rural area development.

“Dong Thap Province highly appreciates the companionship of Hope Foundation and sponsors in creating these practical works that bring long-term benefits to the community,” Tuan said.

Three days earlier, Hope Bridges 454 and 458 broke ground in Tay Ninh Province. The bridges are 30 meters and 24 meters long, with FPT Corporation and the FPT for Community Fund sponsoring a total of VND240 million.

These activities are part of “The Road to School” program run by Hope Foundation since 2018. To date, more than 470 Hope Bridges have been built in Can Tho, An Giang, Dong Thap, Tay Ninh, and other provinces, contributing to improved local transportation systems and economic development.
