‘Keep your mouth shut for Abhishek Banerjee’, TMC MLA explains the reason for the split in the party

Trinamool Congress has broken. 60 out of its 80 MLAs have rebelled and announced their decision to leave former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. TMC, which is facing the challenge of saving its existence, is blaming Bharatiya Janata Party for this. In such a situation, questions are being raised that why has the party and its leader, who have been in power continuously for 15 years, suddenly become bent on such a rebellion?

Also, what is the reason behind the rebellion of the MLAs after the defeat in Bengal elections? This rebellion was also revealed by expelled party MLA Sandipan Saha on Thursday. Sandipan Saha is the same MLA who was recently expelled from the party by TMC along with Ritabrata Banerjee.

How did the rebellion happen in the party?

MLA Sandipan Saha said that the foundation of formal rebellion in TMC was laid in the party meeting held on May 6 after the election results were announced. On this day Sandipan raised serious questions on the internal functioning and leadership of TMC. He told that the ‘trigger point’ of this entire incident came after the party’s election defeat. He said that when he attended the party meeting, an instruction was issued to all the MLAs that no one should use any critical word about Abhishek Banerjee.

Abhishek Banerjee became the reason

“Instead, they were instructed that Abhishek Banerjee had performed exceptionally well and everyone should stand up and applaud,” Sandipan said. It also included MLAs who were serving in the Assembly when Abhishek Banerjee was studying in school. They were also forced to stand and applaud.

60 rebel MLAs themselves came forward

He said, ‘Naturally such an incident creates uneasiness in the mind. Today, when people have the opportunity to reject this attitude, they are doing exactly that. On the issue of 60 rebel MLAs of the party, Saha said that there were some MLAs who were not present at the time of selection of the Leader of the Opposition (LOP), but their names were recorded in capital letters.

That’s why a separate group was created

Sandipan Saha said, ‘If it is seen from an ethical perspective, the question arises that why did you adopt such a process even when you already had the required numbers. This created doubt in the minds of all of us. He said that when he and his colleagues objected to this, a formal letter was submitted to the Assembly Speaker. After this the Speaker ordered an investigation into the matter.

The MLA said, ‘As soon as the investigation started, evidence started emerging which corroborated these allegations. After this, other MLAs also started contacting us. He said that after mutual discussion, the rebel MLAs concluded that if they have to effectively discharge their responsibilities within the Assembly and serve the people of their respective constituencies, they will have to form a separate group.
